BREAKING SURFACE – February 4, 2015

Breaking Surface draws from inherent capabilities and inexhaustible capacities of several artists. This

exhibition is conceptualized to usher in the year with visual metaphors and fresh sensibilities that

audiences in Port Elizabeth has not interacted with.

The exhibition seeks to project the multimedia dimensions and the dexterity of the artists in

foretelling, re-enacting or imaging of our complexities through paintings, photography, ceramics and

sculptures. The context of this exhibition is also to present unification of diversity and to visually

propound that in the broader appeal, a community with variant voices is not necessarily at

disparities with itself.

Breaking Surface exhibition is inspired by the culture that blurs genres, it swings between facts and

fiction. The dynamic physicality and perspectives in the artworks combine to evoke impressions that

will linger in the mind.
